Buy More Storage For Android

How To Deal With The Insufficient Storage Available Problem

How To Get More Storage On Android

When you receive the warning âinsufficient storage availableâ, it means you the dataon the android tablet is too much, and you need to check how much storage space isavailable on your android tabletâs internal storage first. Go to Settings-> Storage, you can see the use of your storage space. If necessary, you can manage yourinternal memory here, like uninstall some unnecessary apps, or other large files, sothat you can free up some space to install new apps, and store new data. Otherwise, you must expand storage space for android tablet by changing a larger Micro SDcard.

Internal Versus External Memory

When considering the memory specifications of any phone, it is important to understand the difference between internal and external memory. Internal memory is the manufacturer-installed storage space, usually 16, 32 or 64GB, where the operating system, pre-installed apps, and other system software is installed.

The total amount of internal storage cannot be increased or decreased by the user, so if your phone has only 16GB of internal storage and no expansion slot, this is all the storage space you will ever have. And remember, some of this will already be used up by the system software.

External, or expandable, memory refers to a removable microSD card or similar. Many devices which feature a MicroSD card slot are sold with a card already inserted. But not all phones will have this extra storage space included, and not all phones even have the facility to add external memory. The iPhone, for example, has never given users the ability to add more storage space by using an SD card, neither have LG Nexus devices. If storage, for music, images, or other user-added files, is important to you, the ability to add another 32GB or even 64GB card reasonably cheaply should be an important consideration.

Stop Messaging Apps Saving Media To Your Phone

You may have already changed this setting in your messaging apps. If so, you’ll already know how much space it can save to not have every image or video in a chat saved to your gallery.

For those of you that haven’t, this isn’t a trick to clear the files that are currently taking up storage on your phone. Instead, it’s an incredibly effective way to free up space going forward.

As with most of these tips, we should stress that the media from your chats won’t be lost forever. It’ll still be accessible in the chats, it just won’t be clogging up your gallery.

There are dozens of messaging apps out there, so we won’t go through the process for all of them. But for those of you who use WhatsApp, here’s how to do it:

  • Stop saving media from all chats Open WhatsApp > More options > Settings > Chats > turn off ‘Media visibility’
  • Stop saving media from individual chats Open the chat > More options > View contact > turn off ‘Media visibility’.

    Perform A Factory Reset

Rather than deleting lots of different bits and pieces, you could just delete everything on your phone and start with a fresh slate. A factory reset willwipe your Android phone or tablet clean, so make sure that everything you care about is backed up first. Youll also want to fully charge your device and ensure that you know the username and password for the Google account youve been using on your device. Once you start fresh, you wont want to come back and reinstall everything you had before youll have to be choosy about what files and apps you need available on your phone. To reset your device, go to Settings > System > Rest Options > Reset All Data .

    Android Studio Tutorial

One of the major downsides of Androids is that they come with a lot of pre-installed apps, or bloatware, that are just sitting around taking up space. You can disable them but not get rid of them.

There is really no way to get rid of bloatware with a third-party app unless you have root access to your phone. If you dont know what root access is, youre safer just clearing the caches and disabling the bloatware.

    Add Storage To Your Phone

If you own an Android phone with a memory card expansion slot, invest in a microSD card, and move some of the files from your phones built-in storage. We like the SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDXC, which comes in 64, 128, 256 and 400GB . To move files around, you can use a file manager app. Most phones come with their own file managers. If yours doesn’t, or if you want a more flexible app, install the ES File Manager . You can also purchase an external drive like the SanDisk Dual Drive M3.0 , which you can plug directly into your phone’s microSD and computer’s USB or a SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C which plugs into your phone’s USB-C and your computer USB.

You can’t add a memory card to an iPhone, but you can purchase a flash drive to plug into your iPhone or iPad to offload photos and plug into your computer. We like the or the SanDisk iXpand Mini Flash Drive For Your iPhone which into your iPhone or iPad.

    How To Change Your Mind

Youll also see the storage device in the Settings app. Open the Settings app, tap the Storage & USB option, and youll see any external storage devices appear here.

To turn a portable SD card into internal storage, select the device here, tap the menu button in the top-right corner of your screen, and select Settings. You can then use the Format as internal option to change your mind and adopt the drive as part of your devices internal storage. This will erase the contents of the drive, so be careful and ensure you have everything backed up first.

To make an internal SD card portable so you can remove it from your device, visit Settings > Storage & USB, tap the devices name, tap the menu button, and tap Format as portable. This will erase the contents of the SD card, but youll be able to use it as a portable device afterwards.

Androids improved support for MicroSD cards is nice, but youre probably better off with speedy internal storage than a MicroSD card formatted to function as internal storage. That SD card will likely be a bit slower.

Do Emails Text Message And Voicemails Take Space On Mobile Phones

You’d be surprised at how much space old text messages and voicemail take up on your device. Sure, there are certain exchanges you keep for the sake of cherished memories, but the photos of your dogs in their Halloween costumes you text to your spouse a year ago probably aren’t the best use of storage space on your phone. Take a few minutes to go through these and delete where necessary.

There are two ways to use an SD card with your device. In the past, Android has traditionally used all SD cards as portable storage. You can remove the SD card from the device and plug it into your computer or another device and transfer files, like videos, music, and photos, back and forth. Your Android device will continue working properly if you remove it.

Starting with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, though, some phones can use SD cards as internal storage as well. In this case, your Android device adopts the SD card as part of its internal pool. Itll be treated as part of your internal storage, and Android can install apps to it and save app data to it. In fact, since its considered internal storage, any type of app can be installed to the SD cardincluding apps that provide widgets and background processes. Unlike older versions of Android, it doesnt matter whether the developer has disabled the move to SD card permission or not.

However, when you use an SD card as internal storage, Android formats the SD card in such a way that no other device can read it. Android also expects the adopted SD card to always be present, and wont work quite right if you remove it. This method is useful if your phone doesnt come with very much space to begin with, and you want more space for your apps and files.

‘i Grabbed 45gb Back’ Some Inspiration Before You Start

Freeing up space on your phone is more art than science, and exactly how many GB you’ll be able to reclaim will depend on your handset and your tolerance of digital clutter. But before you start, here are a couple of examples of how it can work:

I had 0% storage left. I was having to delete photos on my Google Pixel because it said it was full. Backed everything up to the cloud and Google Photos and restored my phone . I now have 45GB free.

I was considering getting a new iPhone and wanted to see how much memory I really needed. I worked my way through my pictures, videos, downloads and apps, erasing everything I didn’t need. I grabbed more than 20GB back without losing anything I really liked or needed, cutting the memory used on my phone from 45GB to just over 20GB. What’s more, it gave me the confidence to go for a smaller, cheaper new phone I went for the 32GB model rather than the pricier 64GB.

How to download, update, and manage apps from the Google Play Store ...

The more snapshots and movies you capture with your phone’s camera, the bigger the dent in your available storage. After a year or two capturing life’s important moments , it’s not uncommon to face a storage crisis.

Solution: offload the older or less important stuff to another location. This could be the hard drive on your PC or a cloud service such as Dropbox or Flickr. The latter is a solid choice, as it offers a whopping 1 terabyte of free storage for photos.

Of course, Google Photos gives you unlimited storage for both photos and videos, the only limitation being that photos must be smaller than 16 megapixels and videos 1080p or less. Just as awesome, it can automatically delete from your phone those items it has already backed up to the cloud, potentially freeing up gigabytes of space.

To access that feature, just load the Photos app, tap Menu > Settings, and then hit Free up device storage.
