How To Add A Second Gmail Account To Android
Adding a second Gmail or Google account to your Android smartphone or tablet is something many will probably need to do for personal reasons, business, or just to handle multiple accounts. The entire process is extremely easy, but may not be visible and easy to find for some users at first glance.
When you first receive a brand new Android device Google prompts you to sign-in to your account during the initial setup process, but thats all. Weve found that lately more and more users are asking about adding a second Gmail account to their Android device, and its rather easy but some are hitting the wrong button in settings.
Whether you want to add a second Gmail to your Android device for work, a family member, or an account for the kids to game on, the task is extremely easy. It only takes a minute and a couple of taps in the settings menu, and youre all done. Well also go over unchecking all the sync options on this new account, so it only delivers what you want.
The entire process takes about 30 seconds to complete and will sync your emails, contacts, photos, app data and more, as long as youd like it to. Of course once you add a second Gmail account to your Android device you can disable anything you dont want to sync, so lets get started.
For our quick how to guide below were using Android 5.0 Lollipop, but the steps and settings required are essentially the same on most Android devices, as well as on Android 4.4 KitKat.

You can also add a secondary account directly from the Gmail app.
From anywhere in the app, slide open the menu on the left side. You can also tap the three lines in the top left.
With the menu open, tap your name and email addresstheres a little arrow beside it.
When that menu opens, tap the Add account button.
From here, just tap the Google button.
The rest of the process is identical to above, so give that a look.

If you get to a point where you no longer need multiple profiles on a device, you can easily remove the additional profiles. Unfortunately, theres no way to remove the Admin accountwhich is always the one used during the initial setup processso you cant pass the device on to the new user and make them the admin. At that point, youll have to just factory reset the phone.
Note: Only the admin account can remove profiles.

From there, select Remove User.
This will remove the account and all the associated data.

If you have a shared device and are into the idea, setting up a new user profile is easy peasy. You can do this on Android phones with Lollipop and above, as well as tablets with KitKat . Tablets also offer an exclusive Restricted Profile for shared devices with kids.
Note: This option may not be available on all devices. Some manufacturers, like Samsung, remove it from their phones.
