Electronic Signatures Not Digital Signatures

How to Sign a PDF Document on Android
  • Windows: Open the PDF in Adobe Reader and click the Fill & Sign button in the right pane.
  • Mac: Open the PDF in Preview, click the Toolbox button, then click Sign
  • iPhone and iPad: Open the PDF attachment in Mail, then click Markup and Reply to sign.
  • iPhone and Android: Download Adobe Fill & Sign, open the PDF, and tap the Signature button.
  • Chrome: Install the HelloSign extension, upload your PDF, and click the Signature button.
  • First, lets straighten out some terminology. This article deals with electronic signatures, not digital signatures, which are something else entirely. A digital signature is cryptographically secure and verifies that someone with your private signing key has seen the document and authorized it. Its very secure, but also complicated.

An electronic signature, on the other hand, is merely an image of your signature overlaid on top of a PDF document. You can do it with all kinds of apps, and its what most people will require when they send you a document to sign. Send them a PDF file with a digital signature and they wont know what to make of it. For many businesses, simply accepting signed documents by email rather than forcing you to fax them is a huge technological leap.

So sure, the below methods arent perfectly securebut neither is printing something, scribbling over it with a pen, and then scanning it again. At least this is faster!

    Docusign Been Great But

So been a great helpful sight to use for ease of important document signing etc from another location! Only hang up that i feel would/could use some easier access means is when i signed at 1st using the touch screen my own signature means is that for some reason after signing it logged it in which is fine but it turned it vertically not horizontally for my signature to be placed on documents I dont know why it logged it this way I kept trying to go in to see if I could change it could not find a means to really change it had to start over but even at that it was very troublesome trying to figure out how to edit my signature and start over was not an easy access to do so should be right there on the signature screen an edit button start over button to click on actually took me and a broker quite some time researching to find where we can change this not knowing the site like others may so this was not a friendly user signature change out found it took a while wasted extra time not necessary please change this other words high reviews was excellent thank you

Best Electronic Signature App For Cloud Users

HelloSign, now owned by Dropbox, is one of the simplest to use electronic signature apps around. As soon as you log in, you’re presented with two options: send or sign something, or create a template. The things you’re going to want to do aren’t hidden away in deep sub-menus.

The simplicity of the user interface, however, hides some pretty powerful features. Of all the apps we tested, HelloSign has the best integrations with cloud storage platforms. While you’d expect it to play nice with Dropbox, it also works well with Google Drive, Box, Evernote, and OneDrive.

To sign a file in your Dropbox, for example, you can head to HelloSign, click Sign or Send, then click on the Dropbox icon to bring up a file browser. Navigate to the file you want to sign, and click Choose to import it into HelloSign. Alternatively, you could open the file in Dropbox, select it, click on the dropdown, then click Send for Signatures. You’ve got similar options with Google Drive too. You can upload a file directly from HelloSign or, with the Chrome add-on, sign files through the Google Drive app.

And all this file handling works both ways. When someone signs a document and sends it back to you, it can get saved back to your cloud storage platform of choice.

      Electronic Signature Software

As mentioned earlier in the PDF document signing section, electronic signature software make digitally signing secure documents easy. Theyre generally web- or app-based, so they can be used by individuals with an Android device.

How To Sign Word Documents On Your Computer

Microsoft Word supports two types of signatures: an electronic signature, which is simply an image of your signature added to a document, and a digital signature, which is encrypted data that is saved in the document that proves the document came from you. If you’re signing a Word document that’s set up for a digital signatures, it will have a special signature line. Just double click the signature line and a Sign dialog box will pop up. Here, you can add a printed version of your signature by typing your name, add a handwritten signature with a stylus, or insert an image of your signature by clicking “Select Image,” finding your signature file, and then clicking “Select.”

If you’re signing a document that hasn’t been set up for Word’s digital signature system, clicking on the signature line does nothingbut you can still insert your signature. Just place your cursor where you want to add your signature and choose Insert and then Picture. Select a picture file of your signature, preferably a PNG file and youll see your signature appear in the document. Dont worry if the picture has messed up the formatting of the document, youre about to fix that.

Editing Your Scan In Google Drive

Google Drive offers four icons at the bottom of your scan page. From left to right, these are:

      • Redo: Tap the arrow to scan the document again, which is useful if it came out blurry or similar.
      • Color: The palette icon lets you choose between four color enhancement options. Black & White and Color are the most common, depending on whether your document has color. But you can try the other two to see if they improve the scan quality.
      • Rotate: Use this to rotate the scan in 90-degree increments.
      • Crop: Google Drive’s scanner should automatically crop the scan to what it detects as the edges of your document. But in case it didn’t get this right, use the Crop tool to adjust the edges yourself.

      Image Gallery

If you want to add additional scans, tap the Plus icon in the bottom-left corner to scan another document. Finally, there are a few options accessible using the three-dot menu at the top-right. Use Rename scan to change the generic name that uses the date and time.

There are a few options under Settings worth looking at, too. Image enhancement lets you set the default color enhancement. Paper Size lets you change the size of document the final PDF uses, while Paper Orientation can be Landscape or Portrait if you don’t like the Automatic option.

Finally, change the Image Quality if you want higher-quality scans, or to drop the quality for smaller file sizes.

        Use Apple’s Markup Feature

If you don’t want to download a third-party app, or just have a simple form to fill out, you can use a built-in tool on your iPhone called Markup. Available in many native Apple apps, Markup lets you enter text and your signature into forms saved on your iPhone. No, it’ s not as good as Adobe Fill & Sign, but it works fine for shorter, less complex forms.

Accessing Markup varies across the different native applications, but once you’re in, it’s pretty much the same. To type anything into the document, tap on the plus sign and hit “Text.” You can move the text around, resize it, change its color, and more. Markup does not have an option to add checkmarks, but you can use the pen, marker, or pencil to draw one yourself.

When you’re done with text, you can add your signature. In Markup, tap on the plus sign and then on “Signature.” If you’ve never used this feature, it will ask you to draw a new signature. If you’ve used it before, your signature will already appear.

Although Markup isn’t as powerful as Adobe Fill & Sign, it’s a great alternative for those that don’t want to download a third-party app and want to fill out a simple form or document on an iPhone.
