When Will My Google Pixel Phone Get Android 11

The phrase “fast Android updates” is usually an oxymoron, but Google’s lineup of Pixel phones is the exception to that rule. Whenever a new update or security patch is released, Pixels are the first in line for that software, making this one of the biggest benefits of owning a Pixel.

The Android 11 stable update is now available to download on all Pixels starting with the Pixel 2 series. Here’s the full list:

    • Pixel 2
    • Pixel 5
    • Pixel 5a

The Pixel 2 and 2 XL are still on Android 11, while all Pixels starting with the 3 have since moved on to Android 12.

When Will My Motorola Phone Get Android 11

    Here

2020 was an exciting year for Motorola. The company is still churning out high-quality budget devices, and alongside those, we see Moto’s return to the flagship space. However, it’s still straggling behind in an area that’s been a pain point for years â software updates.

Motorola revealed its eligible Android 11 phones in December 2020, but it took much longer than other OEMs to hit its targeted phones. Most didn’t receive the update until spring or summer 2021. So now, every eligible phone has received Android 11 in at least some territories, but may not have received it in specific territories.

Here are the Motorola/Moto phones that have received Android 11, at least in some countries:

    • Motorola Edge+
    • Moto G60
    • Moto G100

While almost all eligible Motorola phones have received Android 11, Piunikaweb reports that Moto One 5G Ace owners are still waiting for their official release as of early April.

How To Downgrade To An Older Version Of Android

Generally, it’s always best to keep your devices up to date. But unfortunately, over-the-air updates can sometimes break software, change features in unwanted ways, or introduce bugs that the manufacturer may not fix.

So, in such cases, you should consider rolling back the update that’s causing severe bugs in your phone. Switching back to a previous version of Android is generally not recommended, but it isn’t impossible.

Here’s how you can downgrade your phone’s Android version easily.

When Will My Oppo Phone Get Android 11

OPPO is also turning its attention to Western markets. The Chinese manufacturer made many changes to its ColorOS interface over the last 12 months, making it more palatable to a global audience.

After introducing the ColorOS 11 based on Android 11 in closed beta for the Find X2 series, the company moved on to the stable build for its eligible phones. Now, every eligible phone should have it, as the company moves on to ColorOS 12.

These are the ColorOS phones that have received the Android 11 update:

What’s Going On With Android 11 On Non

As noted above, the Android 11 update rollout was a bit different compared to past releases. Instead of Pixels being the only phones treated to the new software, handsets from other select manufacturers were also treated to Android 11 in some form.

Let’s first look at Samsung, which is marketing its Android 11 update as One UI 3.0/3.1. Most of the core design principles remain in place, but there is a lot that’s new to check out. Samsung’s touting things like an improved lock screen, a more customizable always-on display, new accessibility tools, and more.

Samsung has already delivered the Android 11 update to most of its 2020 phones, and is now working its way down the list to its 2019 phones. The South Korean manufacturer leads the field for updates, and has done a stellar job rolling out Android 11 to most of its devices. It is delivering the One UI 3.1 build that debuted on the Galaxy S21 series by default.

Nokia has also kicked off its Android 11 update rollout, with the Nokia 8.3 5G picking up the stable update starting February 8. HMD has lagged behind in this area over previous years, and that hasn’t changed in 2021. While a few devices have received the Android 11 update, HMD is clearly on the backfoot when it comes to updates.

Software updates are released at different times depending on the carrier, market, region or country. Therefore, we can’t give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your device. Models That Should Receive The Update

Samsung has released a schedule for the release of Android 11 on the Samsung Members app, including models that have already received the update as well as other smartphones in their inventory that should receive the new operating system version before 2021 comes to a close.

So far, the company has made the update available for some smartphones from the previous list in advance, but there is always the possibility of delays.

    • Galaxy A01 Core
    • Galaxy Tab A 8
    • Galaxy Tab Active Pro

What Do You Need To Know When Downgrading

Unlike updating to a new version of Android, rolling back your phone to an older version takes effort and there are a few things you should know before doing it.

First things first, downgrading to an older version of Android will wipe all current data stored on your Android device. This doesnt just include all your device settings and app data but everything you ever saved on the internal storage of your Android phone. So, the first thing you do when you decide to downgrade is to back up all of your data from your device to the cloud or to some other device.

To check if a backup has been made or to create one manually, you can open the Settings app on Android 12 and go to Google > Backup. From here, enable the Backup by Google One toggle and then tap on Back up now to start copying your device data onto Googles servers.

Since this data is more crucial to you when setting up your device back again, you can use this native feature to restore most of your stuff.

Besides device data, you may also want to back up data from third-party apps you may have on your phone. Since all apps behave differently. theres no one way to back up data from all of them in the same manner. Most apps now work across all platforms thanks to their interconnected cloud services so you may not need to back them up manually.

How To Manually Install Android 11

Its possible that Android 11 is available for your phone, yet checking for the update is fruitless. Software updates often roll out in stages, which means not everyone will get them right away. If Android 11 is available for your device, it should arrive in a few days.

However, there are ways to manually install Android 11. This is called sideloading, and its a more complex way to install a firmware update. 9to5Google has an in-depth guide on sideloading Android 11 on a Pixel phone.

Keep in mind that sideloading requires some advanced tools and procedures. If done incorrectly, you risk permanently bricking your device. Sideloading is not something the typical smartphone user should attempt. For most of us, simply waiting for the over the air update is fine.

    How To Download Android 11

Not everyone with compatible devices will be able to download the Android 11 operating system today. Google is only saying rollout begins today and it might take a while for the update to reach widespread availability.

Theres an easy check on Pixel devices. You can head to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update.

From here, Android will automatically search for an update, but you can trigger it by tapping Check For Update. If Android tells you your system is up to date, then youre going to have to play a waiting game. It may be a number of days or weeks before you see the update show up, depending on your device and location.

Heres how to check for the Android 11 update on compatible non-Pixel phones:

Quit The Android 12 Beta Program

This is an easy way to downgrade Android 12 to 11. If you install Android 12 Beta by enrolling in the Android 12 Beta Program, you can choose this way. If not, you can only go to the next method.

Here is what you should do to uninstall Android 12:

Step 1: Click the link to visit the Android Beta Program website.

Step 2: Log into your Google account that should be associated with the phone running Android 12. Then, you can see eligible devices and know which device is enrolled in the beta. Locate it and click Opt out.

Step 3: A pop-up appears to tell you that you will remove the device from the Android Beta Program and revert the device to Android 11. Just click the Leave beta button to perform the operation.

    Privacy Features For Apps

How to install Android 11 – All Phones

Google is adding several new privacy features to apps to give you more transparency and control. You can now see when an app is using your microphone or camera through an indicator on your phone’s status bar. You’re also given the option to completely disable any and all apps’ access to your microphone or camera in Quick Settings. Android 12 also lets you keep your exact location private by giving you an option to give apps your approximate location instead.

According to an Android Developers blog post, one Android 12 update gives you more information about how cookies can be used across sites, while another changes how apps export information to prevent them from accidentally exporting activities, services and receivers.

It’s worth noting that these policies are less strict than those previously seen in Apple’s iOS 14 software releases, which include new app “nutrition labels” that tell people what personal data their apps are collecting, and a change in iOS 14.5 that requires developers to ask people for permission to gather data and track them across apps and websites.

    More Restrictive Permissions For Apps

With Android 11, Google is following Apples lead by changing how apps can access data from certain sensors. For location, microphone, and camera access, Android 11 will give you the choice to only grant permission while the app is in use or give the app a one-time permission.

In fact, if you want to give an app permission to access your location in the background, you have to head into that apps info page within settings. Its an extra step designed to make you think twice.

After you upgrade to Android 11, apps are going to have to ask your preferences again the first time they try to ping one of those sensors. That will serve as an effective reset on what the apps can do.

Google is going a little further with permissions resetting, too. If youve granted an app access to that sensor but havent opened it in quite some time, Android will silently reset that apps permissions back to having no access to any of your sensors.

How Do Android 11 Chat Bubbles Work

As mentioned above, there isn’t one single overhaul or massive change found with Android 11. Instead, it’s a mix of many small tweaks here and there. A few of them focus on improving your messaging experience, with Google offering a lot in this department.

First on the list, we have chat bubbles. Similar to what Facebook’s offered for years with its Messenger app on Android, chat bubbles in Android 11 hide your ongoing conversations in little bubbles on the side of your screen. You can move the bubbles around, and tapping on them reveals that specific conversation. The Bubbles API is available for all messaging apps, but it hasn’t picked up much uptick.

In another effort to make sure you can get to your messages as quickly as possible, Android 11 introduces a dedicated conversation section in your notification shade that offers instant access to any ongoing conversations you have. It also makes it easier for your messaging notifications to stand out from others, ensuring you never miss an important text ever again.

Speaking of messages and notifications, Android 11 makes it possible to send images from the notification shade when replying to a message.
