Microsoft Edge: Sync Your Browsing History Between Your Phone And Windows 10

Once you sign in to it with your Microsoft user account, the Android version of Microsoft’s web browser, Edge, will sync your bookmarks, history and other data from Edge on your Windows 10 PC to it. But why bother using Edge at all especially if you’re primarily browsing with Chrome on your PC?

First, it can be helpful to keep an alternative browser on your phone as a backup in case you encounter an issue with the Android version of Chrome. If you’re already using Windows 10 in coordination with your Android phone, Edge is a natural backup choice.

Second, when you view a web page on your Android phone with Edge, you can forward that page directly to your Windows 10 PC and resume reading it in Edge on your PC. To do this, in Edge for Android, tap the middle icon that’s toward the bottom of the app. A list of your Windows 10 PCs will appear. Tap the one that you want to forward the web page to. Then, on that PC, the Edge browser will automatically launch and load the web page you forwarded.

With the Android version of Microsoft’s browser Edge, you can forward a web page directly to your Windows 10 PC and continue viewing it on the Windows 10 version of Edge.

Manage Restricted Web Sites

Organizations can define which sites users can access within the work or school account context in Edge for iOS and Android. If you use an allow list, your users are only able to access the sites explicitly listed. If you use a blocked list, users can access all sites except for those explicitly blocked. You should only impose either an allowed or a blocked list, not both. If you impose both, only the allowed list is honored.

Organization also define what happens when a user attempts to navigate to a restricted web site. By default, transitions are allowed. If the organization allows it, restricted web sites can be opened in the personal account context, the Azure AD accountââ¬â¢s InPrivate context, or whether the site is blocked entirely. For more information on the various scenarios that are supported, see Restricted website transitions in Microsoft Edge mobile. By allowing transitioning experiences, the organization’s users stay protected, while keeping corporate resources safe.

Edge for iOS and Android can block access to sites only when they are accessed directly. It doesn’t block access when users use intermediate services to access the site.

Use the following key/value pairs to configure either an allowed or blocked site list for Edge for iOS and Android.

The following sites are always allowed regardless of the defined allow list or block list settings:

Secure Mobile Browser Access Using Conditional Access And Microsoft Edge

You can now enforce policy-managed Microsoft Edge as the approved mobile browser to access Azure AD-connected web apps, restricting the use of unprotected browsers like Safari or Chrome. This allows you to secure access and prevent data leakage via unprotected browser applications. A similar protection can be applied to Office 365 services like Exchange Online and SharePoint Online, the Office portal, and access to on-premises sites via the Azure AD Application Proxy.

Users attempting to use unmanaged browsers such as Safari and Chrome will be prompted to open Microsoft Edge instead. On first attempt, users will be prompted to install the Microsoft Authenticator on iOS or the Intune Company Portal on Android. Here is a screenshot of a blocked access when using Safari on iOS.

Require approved mobile apps for security

To configure this in Microsoft Intune, you need to apply application-based conditional access policy and an App Protection policy for Microsoft Edge on iOS and Android. Heres how you do that:

Create a conditional access policy to lock down browser access to a policy-protected browser such as Microsoft Edge using app-based conditional access. Heres a screenshot of a policy targeting browser access.

You may then select the control to grant access to cloud resources only from approved clients apps that can protect your corporate data. Configure conditional access policy to require approved apps

You can interact with the screencast in multiple ways:

    • Keystrokes on your computer are sent to the device.

    • To scroll, use your trackpad or mouse wheel, or fling with your mouse pointer.

    • Screencasts negatively affect frame rates. Disable screencasting while measuring scrolls or animations to get a more accurate picture of the performance of your page.
    • If your Android device screen locks, the content of your screencast disappears. Unlock your Android device screen to automatically resume the screencast.

A browser that’s not fast enough to respond to your commands can be annoying. You might have experienced it when a site takes time to open up on a slow browser with heavy memory usage.

Microsoft Edge 92 For Android Rolling Out With The Unified Codebase

Following the release of Microsoft Edge 92 for PCs, Microsoft is now giving the same treatment to its mobile browser. This is a major update for Microsoft Edge for Android as it finally unifies the codebase with the PC version. Up until now, the stable version of Microsoft Edge for Android was stuck on Chromium 77. As you would expect, it lagged behind other Chromium browsers in terms of both features and performance. But that changes with Microsoft Edge 92, which, as the name implies, is based on Chromium 92.

With the unification of the codebase , we can expect the mobile browser to receive new features and improvements at a much faster pace. Microsoft Edge 92 is packed with many new features. It now lets you synchronize tabs, passwords, history, bookmarks, favorites, and more across devices when youre signed in using the same Microsoft account. Theres also a built-in ad blocker powered by Adblock Plus, allowing you to block trackers and annoying ads on all websites. You can find the ad blocker under Settings > Privacy and Security > Block ads. It also gives you the option to allow non-intrusive ads that comply with the Acceptable Ads criteria.

The new version has started rolling out on the Google Play Store, but it seems to be a staged rollout as the Play Store listing on my device is still showing the old version. You can hit the Play Store link below to see if its available for you. Alternatively, you can grab the latest APK straight from APKMirror.
