Performance Battery Life And Cameras
If you want to know if a particular model is great for gaming or too slow for web browsing, then read our reviews, which include benchmark results for a more empirical comparison you cant rely on specifications such as processor speed or number of cores it possesses to guarantee good performance.
We also test battery life, to give you an accurate idea of how long each tablet should likely last between charges. The best tablets last around ten hours or more, while the worst only manage four to five hours on a charge.
The same applies to cameras, and as with performance, you shouldnt judge by the number of megapixels. Instead, check out our test photos in each review to see whether youre happy with the quality on offer. Few Android tablets have great cameras, and quite a few have awful ones, so if photos, videos and video calls are important, dont buy before youve read our reviews.
Once you’ve got your Android tablet, you might do yourself a favour by investing in one of our best tablet stands, to make usage more comfortable, reduce neck strain, and improve your posture.
Android Vs Apple Tablets
Android tablets make great media players, ebook readers, and kids’ devices , but they rarely compete with iPads when it comes to versatility and performance.
Generally speaking, the greatest strengths of Apple’s iPadOS are twofold: It’s very clean and intuitive, and the numerous apps that you can buy right on your tabletâmore than one million iPad-specific titles at the time of this writingâwork uniformly well, with a very few exceptions. The downside of iPadOS is that while recent upgrades have improved multitasking, it still can’t handle multiple users per device, and transferring files between apps is still kludgey. iPads remain a supplement to, not a full replacement, for MacBooks. iPads also have the best selection of accessories, including the outstanding second-generation Apple Pencil.
Google’s Android OS gives you a choice of hardware from several different manufacturers and offers maximum configurability, a top-notch notification system, fast and smooth web browsing, and seamless integration with Google applications such as Gmail, Google Maps, and Meet for video chat. Android also includes support for multiple user logins, so you can share your tablet with a friend or family member, a useful feature that’s missing in Apple tablets. That said, most Android tablets ship with an older version of the OS, and few get updates.

Best Windows Tablet: Microsoft Surface Pro 7
Why should you buy this? We dont love Windows 10 as a pure tablet, but the Surface is a very good laptop replacement that puts touch first.
Whos it for? Anyone seeking a Windows tablet that can serve as a laptop.
Why we picked the Surface Pro 7:
The original Surface Pro was flawed, but it had a major impact on the market. Microsoft has refined the design since then, and the Surface Pro 7 is as close as you can get to a hybrid device that serves equally well as a tablet and as a laptop. It is the 2-in-1 to beat.
Microsoft hasnt updated much over the Surface Pro 6, but the bump in performance and switch from mini-DisplayPort to USB-C is welcome. Youve still got a gorgeous 12.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels, a thoughtful design, and a choice of internal specs that range from basic to lightning fast. It is by far the most configurable device on our list. The pixel-packed display and loud speakers make it a pleasure to watch movies on, but we found it lags way behind the iPad Pro when it comes to gaming.
The Pro 7 takes a step back from the Pro 6 in terms of battery life, but you can still expect to get through a full day of mixed-use before needing to plug in.
The Type Cover and Surface Pen are excellent accessories and, combined with the full version of Windows 10, help make this a great choice for creative professionals, students, and everyone in between. This is real portable productivity.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE
The Galaxy Tab S7 FE offers a similar experience as the more expensive Galaxy S7 tablets, and it comes with an S Pen in the box.
- Larger bezels than on other Samsung tablets
- Not the most powerful specs
If you’re looking to buy a tablet for the first time and don’t have any stringent needs, the Galaxy Tab A series is an excellent option for a fraction of the Tab S7+’s cost. While you won’t be blown away by its specs or features, the Tab A still manages to offer a metal body. And unlike Amazon’s Fire Tablets, it has a fully-functional version of Android with Google services like the Play Store, so you can download any apps you want.
The Galaxy Tab A is available in both 8-inch and 10.1-inch configurations, but I think the former is a perfect starting point for first-time tablet owners. The smaller display and overall design make the Tab A extremely portable and comfortable to hold in one hand while still being large enough to consume media from streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and Disney+.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Review: Price And Availability
The Galaxy Tab A7 starts at , but Samsung’s offering it for $154 right now, for savings of $75. I hope it stays that low, as that makes it compellingly close to the $150 .
Want twice as much internal storage? Samsung charges $50 extra to go from 32GB to 64GB, though there is a microSD card for expandability as well, allowing you to add up to another terabyte. The company charges $49 for its Tab A7 Book Cover stand, which lets you prop it up with ease.

Amazon Fire Hd : Best Android Tablet Under 100
Price: £90 |
Our favourite budget Android tablet is back and its better than ever. Its £10 more expensive than the previous model but has received some much-needed hardware upgrades, with a faster MediaTek MT8168 processor and 32GB base storage, twice that of its predecessor. Its also received a slight boost in RAM from 1.5GB to 2GB, and finally includes a USB-C port. All that translates to speedier CPU and GPU performance, and battery life has improved, too.
The 8in display, however, has not received an upgrade. Its still perfectly functional, but the 1,280 x 800px resolution looks rather fuzzy when compared with the vibrant screens on Apple tablets. Thats one of only two drawbacks to what is otherwise a superb budget tablet, the other being the somewhat limited range of applications on the Amazon app store.
Dont let those minor issues discourage you, though: you simply wont find a better Android tablet for under £100. And if youre happy to stretch your budget to £110, the provides extended battery life, 1GB more RAM and a faster charger.

Best Overall: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus
The biggest Android OEM thats still going at the tablet game is Samsung, and the Galaxy Tab S7+ shows just how good their tablets in the premium spectrum can get. Samsung tablets have yet to see a 2021 refresh, but this particular model features a Snapdragon 865+ for its guts, up to 8 GB of RAM, and Samsungs excellent 120Hz AMOLED panel manages to drive the show, this time around in a 12.4-inch presentation. What makes this particular tablet so good, however, is that its not just stretched-out Android. Samsung DeX can be enabled without requiring an external display, and with a keyboard and mouse, it actually manages to take on some productivity tasks, further helped out by the big 12.4-inch display.
With a 10,090 mAh battery driving the show, support for 45W charging, and Android 10 updatable to Android 11, it is one of the best Android tablets money can buy today.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+
Samsungs headliner tablet is the best Android tablet you can buy today. The differences between the S8+ and the S8 boil down to the size and quality of the screen. The latter has a smaller and less vibrant LTPS TFT display and is slightly thicker overall to accommodate it. It also lacks the in-display fingerprint scanner found in the S8+, though the smaller device does feature a power button fingerprint scanner.
The Galaxy tab S8 ultra , featured below, is the supersized model, has dual 12MP cameras rather than the single one found in the smaller tablets, and can be customised with additional storage and as much as twice the RAM.

Best Tablet 202: The Top Tablets You Can Buy Right Now
These are the best tablets to buy right now
Our best tablet guide aims to make finding a great tablet easier, as with so many to pick from, it can be hard to choose. New options are arriving all the time too, most recently the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and Lenovo Yoga Tab 13, so read on to see how they rank below.
There are plenty of other excellent tablets to choose from too though, such as the iPad Air 4 , the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus, the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro, and the iPad mini . Youll find all of those and many more in our list below.
The best tablet won’t be the same for everyone, so they’re all worth considering. Factors that you should bear in mind will include operating system, size, price, and specs. If price is your main focus, be sure to check out our best cheap tablet guide.
To make things easier, each entry below shows you all of those things at a glance, along with an overview highlighting why you might – or might not – like each of them.
And if you don’t see anything you like, it’s worth checking back regularly, because we’re expecting new additions throughout 2022 and beyond.
What About The Fire Hd 8 Plus
For the first time, Amazon is selling two distinct versions of the 8-inch Fire tablet: Theres the regular Fire HD 8 and the Fire HD 8 Plus for $110 . The Plus adds a gigabyte of RAM and wireless charging. The memory isnt especially helpful because Fire OS doesnt emphasize multitasking as Android does on other tablets, and the low-end processor will still get bogged down on heavy webpages or when running demanding games.
The wireless charging might be useful for some people, but only in tandem with the $40 wireless charging dock. The tablet is too big to fit on most charging pads, but the official stand charges the tablet and turns it into an Alexa-powered smart display.
Fire tablets make the most sense when theyre as cheap as possible, so we recommend sticking with the non-Plus model.

Best Overall Android Tablet
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Wi-Fi
The Galaxy Tab S7 offers nearly every feature of the S7+ in a smaller, slightly more affordable package.
- Expensive if you’re only a casual tablet user
- Too large for extended portrait or handheld use
The most important things to have in a full-sized Android tablet are a great screen, loudspeakers, robust build quality, and software that makes use of the extra screen size. That’s what makes the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ well worth the extra cash for power users â it has a combination of everything.
Its spec sheet leaves little to be desired, with a super-fast Snapdragon 865+ processor, 6GB of RAM, plenty of storage, and well-optimized software. Since it’s a Samsung product, you’re getting a best-in-class display â coming in at 12.4 inches with an ultra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate â and a fantastic metal build. You also get an in-display fingerprint sensor, which was missing on prior models.
Beyond the specs, you get extras like excellent quad speakers, a microSD card slot, and an S Pen stylus included in the box that attaches to the tablet’s back for charging when not in use. Despite being thin and light, it gets great battery life, as well. You can add a tremendous first-party keyboard cover to get some work done and then jump into the DeX desktop-style interface for a more laptop-like experience.
If you want a do-everything Android tablet and you’re willing to spend the money, there’s nowhere else to go but the Galaxy Tab S7+.
